“These images are from my latest ongoing project and it’s an attempt to explore and celebrate the drag community in Lagos which is often ridiculed and ignored. Sometimes last year I started creating a photo documentary, centered on the coming out, tragedy, physical injury, trauma, and most especially joys of queer people. Nigeria being one of the places where being yourself is illegal and punishable, LGBTQ+ people are still resilient and thriving. As a photographer and artist, I believe I have a duty to speak out by sharing the stories of people who identify as LGBTQ+. Pictures are a very powerful means of communication and their ability to inspire dialogue and change cannot be denied. Glad to be sharing and celebrating Pride month with everyone out there.”
